FAQs

How to cook the perfect steak on a griddle? ›

If your griddle or skillet is set to medium-high heat, it will take about 3-4 minutes per side to sear a 1 to 1-1/4 inch thick steak. Then, allow another 2-5 minutes to continue cooking it to your desired internal temperature. Thinner steaks will cook faster.

How many times do you flip a steak on a griddle? ›

Our Dallas steakhouse chefs do so about every 30 seconds, but as you're probably not grilling with a stopwatch, flip them as much as you want. Most likely, you'll tend to other foods simultaneously, so keep going back to the meat to keep turning it.

What is the best meat to cook on a griddle? ›

Steak, chops, and chicken breast

Whether beef, or tuna or swordfish, steak, with its even thickness is perfectly made for flat top cooking.

What is the secret to the perfect steak? ›

Rest the meat

When steak cooks, the muscle fibers tighten. If you cut into those tight muscle fibers as soon as it's off the heat, all the juices pour out. That's why resting meat for 5-10 minutes is the secret for preparing a juicy and tender steak.

Do you put oil on the griddle before cooking a steak? ›

Don't oil the griddle. Season steaks before placing on the griddle - rub with a little oil of your choice and sprinkle with salt, pepper, and your favorite spices. Don't salt them too early, though.

Is steak better on a grill or griddle? ›

The griddled steak combines the best of a grilled steak (smoky flavor that can't be imitated) and pan seared steak (even caramelization and tasty crust). On the down side, you don't get to make a pan sauce on a griddle or grill.

When to add butter to steak? ›

Flip steaks and continue cooking to your desired doneness or until internal temperature reaches 135°F for medium rare. Add 2 tbsp unsalted butter to the top of each steak during the last few minutes of cooking, spooning butter over steak as it melts.

Should I constantly flip my steak? ›

But the reality is that flipping a steak repeatedly during cooking—as often as every 30 seconds or so—will produce a crust that is just as good (provided you start with meat with a good, dry surface, as you always should), give you a more evenly cooked interior, and cook in about 30% less time to boot!

How long to cook 1 inch steak on a gas grill? ›

Grilling Steaks FAQs

A 1-inch to 1 ½-inch steak, like sirloin steak, typically takes about 8-10 minutes to grill to medium-rare. If cooking to medium, expect the steak to take 10-12 minutes to cook. Be sure to use a meat thermometer to check the internal temperature before removing your steak from the grill.

Is a cast iron skillet or griddle better for steak? ›

Cooking steak in a cast iron pan is ideal because cast iron heats very evenly and retains heat exceptionally well. A pre-heated cast iron skillet provides the intense heat needed to sear the exterior of a steak to a crispy, flavorful golden-brown while also cooking the interior to perfection.

How long to cook ribeye on a griddle? ›

For example, a 1-inch thick steak cooked on medium-high heat, to a rare internal temp, might only take about 10 to 12 minutes. A thicker 1.5 or 2-inch steak cooked to medium well, however, could take up to 20 minutes.

How to season steak? ›

Season generously until you see a layer of salt on the steak. If your steak is very thick (over an inch), you'll want to use enough salt to actually form a crust on it. Grind a little fresh black pepper over the steak and then gently pat the steak with your hand to adhere the seasoning.

How do restaurants make their steaks so tender? ›

The Aging. Most fine restaurants age their beef to intensify the flavor and improve the tenderness of the cut. Aging is done by letting the meat sit (in very controlled conditions) for several days or weeks.

What is the most flavorful way to cook a steak? ›

The number one spot goes to grilling, the classic method for cooking your steak. While great grilling isn't quite as precise as sous-vide, it leads to the best, purest-tasting steaks out of non-sous vide methods. This is because grilling uses the steak's natural fats and juices for flavor.

How do you make steak more tender and flavorful? ›

On either a cutting board or some other cleanable surface, lay down a bed of salt the size of your steak. Place the steak on top, and completely cover it with salt. Let the salt work on the meat for 15 minutes ( NEVER go longer than 20 minutes). Rinse the salt off the steak thoroughly and pat it dry with a paper towel.

What temperature do you cook steak on an electric griddle? ›

We suggest between 450 degrees and 500 degrees Fahrenheit. Whatever you do, do not place your steak on the griddle before it reaches that temp, though!

How do you cook a ribeye steak on a flat griddle? ›

A medium to medium-high heat works best for cooking a ribeye on the griddle. That means heating your griddle to somewhere between 325 and 375 degrees, which is the sweet spot where you can control just how fast your steak cooks while also getting a nice sear on it.
