Шерлок Холмс и Доктор Ватсон: Знакомство
Directed by Igor Maslennikov
Synopsis
Dr. Watson, who served in the English armed forces and was in the Afghan war, retires and returns to his homeland, in England. Since the financial situation of the doctor is very precarious, his long-time friend Mr. Stamford offers him to rent a room in the house at 221-B Baker Street, which is rented by an elderly lady - Mrs. Hudson. The second rented room is already occupied by another gentleman - the mysterious Mr. Sherlock Holmes. Holmes makes an ambiguous impression on Watson. He conducts complex chemical experiments with blood, plays the violin, has the deepest knowledge about cigar ash, London dirt and criminal law, but at the same time demonstrates complete ignorance of well-known truths (for example, the fact that the Earth revolves around the Sun), does not read fiction, as well as books on history and philosophy. At the same time, very strange visitors constantly come to Holmes, and on the table he has portraits of personalities of a disgusting appearance.

"Kopernikwho"
- Sherlock HolmesThis might just be one of the only adaptations of Sherlock Holmes and his trusty sidekick Dr. Watson, which I had never seen. To my timewasting misfortune it has immediatly become one my favorites so far.
For time reasons they combined the two classic Sherlock Holmes stories "A Study in Scarlet" and "The Speckled Band". The two iconic figures meet and get aquainted with each other in the first half hour and solve a quick crime of greed in the remaining minutes.
Unexpectedly the fact they spoke russian even though they were supposed to be from London didn't bother me in the least.

This adaptation of Sherlock Holmes was universally lauded as one of the best adaptations of the Holmes stories, including having statues of the two actors erected in their honor. Even Arthur Conan Doyle's daughter, Jean Conan Doyle, said this adaption is one that her father would approve of. The craziest part of this story is that these films didn't star any British actors, nor was it filmed in Britain. No, these films, which were released in 1979, were filmed in the former Soviet Union and starred an entirely Russian cast. Despite the high praise, I was skeptical, thinking how could these movies be that good. Well, I was gladly proved wrong because I may have seen one of the best…

I always judge a Holmes adaptation by the Watson, and I could tell from the outset that this was a top-tier version. Both the leads are great, and the whole enterprise is first class, with the exception of some of the subtitle translation. But really, I'll never think of it as anything other than "the Motley Ribbon" from now on.
The acting is brilliant, the direction is assured, the production design is superb, and the homoerotic subtext is is blatant. It's elementary, my dear.

It's taken me a while to get round to this Soviet made Sherlock Holmes, and the more I watched, the more it grew on me. I mean the first half was just Holmes and Watson getting to know each other, but the second half jumps into life with a good old mystery including dangerous animals, and deadly intentions. I liked Holmes and Watson here, I think it starts just a tad slowly, but come the end it felt like a good tale, and I wanted to see more of this series.

I cannot possibly describe how much this series impacted me. It altered my brain chemicals as a kid. Rewired it completely. Changed the trajectory of my life forever. I wouldn't be the same person I am today without it. So many feelings are evoked from rewatches of these heartwarming and genuinely familial episodes. And these are just my subjective feelings- objectively, it's one of the best adaptations of Holmes. It's interesting, well directed, the mystery is there and Sherlock and Watson's relationship truly shines, its just... I have so much love for this series, I can't rate it lower. Forever in my heart :')

I honestly don’t enjoy the setup to this as much as I do the rest of the show: there’s something foundationally unpleasant about a Watson who’s suspicious and distrustful against Holmes (although the fact that his suspicions escalated to the point where he fully brandished a gun against Holmes is darkly hilarious). It’s one of those things where I can see narratively how it’s a good idea, but I just hate to see it. Not to go full tumblr about this, but a Holmes and Watson who aren’t naturally companions just feels…off. Obviously they get there, and once they do the episode turns into a pretty nice adaptation of “The Speckled Band,” albeit one that occasionally runs up against its…

Rating the entire series here in one post.
You know what, this show feels like home and comfort that you wish to have in your own home when, in your dreams, life will finally be good. Wishing you had this warmth to share with people who you trust and watch with delight. This is a detective series and there is constant murder in here, that's true, but this is the absolute most heartwarming adaptation and people come to it to feel like there is good somewhere in this life.
This series truly understands that all this good is stored in Sherlock Holmes.
